1985 Ringette Canada representatives travel to the Soviet Union, Finland, Sweden and Japan to promote Ringette. |
1986 The International Ringette Federation (originally called the World Ringette Council) is founded by Canada, Finland, France, Sweden and the United States. |
1985 Ringette Canada breaks the 20,000 player registrations mark. |
1987 Finland establishes a semi-professional ringette league called “SM Ringette”, formerly known as Ringeten SM-sarja. |
1990 Sweden’s national federation of ringette was established |
1990 Ringette continues to grow in the USA as the Minnesota Ringette Association marks over 1,000 registered players. |
1990 The first-ever World Ringette Championship is held in Gloucester, Ontario, Canada. |
1992 Ringette Canada introduces new “Experimental Rules”, including any three in, second control, goalkeeper substitution, and goalkeeper ring. |
1992 The second World Ringette Championship is held in Helsinki, Finland. There were two Canada teams, Finland, United States, France, Sweden and Russia. |
1994 Sweden’s elite league Ringetteförbundet is formed. |
1994 World Ringette Championship is held in St Paul, Minnesota, United States. |
1996 World Ringette Championships take place in Stockholm, Sweden. |
1997 Ringette Canada introduces a new rule making it mandatory for all participants to wear a “Ringette” face mask (type 5 or 6). |

2007 Canada hosts the eighth World Ringette Championship in Ottawa, Ontario. |
2009 The inaugural U19 Junior World Ringette Championship takes place in Prague, Czech Republic. The event included two teams from Canada (East and West) and two teams from Finland (White and Blue). |
2010 World Ringette Championships take place in Tampere, Finland |
2013 World Ringette Championships are held in North Bay, Ontario, Canada — the birthplace of Ringette — to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Ringette. |
2013 The World Junior Ringette Championships tournament merges with the larger World Ringette Championships and a Junior division is created for the first truly national junior teams rather than regional teams. |
